William Shatner, Greatest Canadian?

Dr. John Mark Reynolds suggests Captain Kirk (William Shatner) as the Greatest Canadian of all time.  I think he is half-joking, but still I was compelled to write up a response.  Not that I'm actually capable of choosing amongst all the figures of worth in Canadian history, but William Howland (see here and here) seems to be far more worthy of our praise than Shatner, even if less influential.  He would seem to be a better pick for those like Dr. Reynolds and his students at Torrey, who are deeply interested in the pursuit of Goodness, Truth, and Beauty.  As such, I implore Dr. Reynolds to reconsider.

I first heard of Howland during a lecture given by Ravi Zacharias.  I happen to be a member of the Christian & Missionary Alliance, so I have a denominational connection to him.

Readers interested in the topic of greatest Canadian might consider the archives at Moteworthy.com (see here, here, and here).  I suggested Howland to them as well...

Of course, the award for "Greatest Canadian" is similar to the award for "Most competitive runner-up"
